Video Information

Digital Video Recorder

A digital video recorder (DVR) (or personal video recorder (PVR)) is a device that records video without videotape to a hard drive-based digital storage medium. The term includes stand-alone set-top boxes and software for personal computers which enables video capture and playback to and from disk. (more info)

Streaming Media

Streaming media is media that is consumed (read, heard, viewed) while it is being delivered. Streaming is more a property of the delivery system than the media itself. The distinction is usually applied to media that are distributed over computer networks; most other delivery systems are either inherently streaming (radio, television) or inherently non-streaming (books, video cassettes, audio CDs). Video Conferencing

A videoconference (also known as a videoteleconference) is a set of interactive telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to interact via two-way video and audio transmissions simultaneously. It has also been called visual collaboration and is a type of groupware.(more info)

Video Editing

The term video editing can refer to:

Video editing is the process of re-arranging or modifying segments of video to form another piece of video. The goals of video editing are the same as in film editing - the removal of unwanted footage, the isolation of desired footage, and the arrangement of footage in time to synthesize a new piece of footage.

Prior to the 90's video editing was done in linear style, using one or more video players and a separate video recorder to piece together the final video. Video editors used video controllers or mixing consoles to play segments of original footage out of order, blended, or modified by other equipment, with the result captured to a master video recorder.

Non-linear editing systems are computer-based. Footage is played into a computer and captured on a hard drive. Editors use software such as Adobe Premiere or Avid Xpress DV to manipulate the captured footage. Clips are arranged on a timeline, music tracks and titles are added, effects can be created, and the finished program is "rendered" into a finished video. The video may then be distributed in a variety of ways including DVD, webstreaming, CDROM, or tape. (more info)

Video Projector

A video projector takes a video signal and projects the corresponding image on a projection screen using a lens system. All video projectors use a very bright light to project the image, and most modern ones can correct any curves, blurriness, and other inconsistencies through manual settings. Video projectors are widely used for conference room presentations, classroom training, and home theatre applications.

Video projectors may also be built into cabinets which use a rear projection screen to form a single unified display device, now popular for "home theater" applications. (more info)
